FAQ’S

Where to get your trophies mounted might be the biggest question you are going to ask yourself. Who will be able to appreciate your trophies as much as you do? Who will be able to appreciate your safari and capture it as close to your image as possible?

There are many factors to consider before making this important decision. Here are a few guidelines to help you with this:

  • Being born in South Africa in the heart of the Bushveld, being able to grow up with African game gracing our front porch, being able to hand raise & rehabilitate orphaned Impala, Kudu, Gemsbuck, Steenbuck, Genet cat, squirrel, Eland & currently Common Duiker is perhaps one of thé best reasons to consider Something Africa Taxidermy as your chosen Taxidermist. Being in such close contact with these African game one notice so much more detail of these animals. So much more of their natural movement, their natural colours, lying down poses, standing poses and many more characteristics.
  • A taxidermist in your home country might be great, but will they have the same picture perfect details to apply to your priceless trophy?
  • Another important aspect to consider are the charges & timelines paired with each option. Firstly, keep in mind that trophies that are Dipped and Packed will be handled by more than double the people in comparison to trophies mounted in SA, making the risk of damaging your precious trophies and destroying your memories forever so much more. If you decide to Dip & Pack your trophies, keep in mind the hidden additional charges, not only will you pay for the dipping in SA, you will most likely pay additional disinfection upon clearance should so much as one hair be out of place, it is also mandatory that your trophies be released only to a registered Taxidermy in US and not directly to your house as in the case of mounted / already processed trophies. Skins will be send to a tannery for preparation and returned to your Taxidermist when complete. Moulds / forms / mannequins will be ordered in. The average turnaround time for a tannery is 18+ months meaning after you’ve waited 4-6+ months for your dip n ship order to arrive, you can wait another 18+ months in comparison to our turnaround time of 8-12 months on our mounts / processed trophies. Meaning you can hang your trophies on your wall before you book your next hunt.

With that said, by mounting your trophies at Something Africa Taxidermy, you can return home after your safari and be rest assured that they will be mounted with the utmost care, precision and focus on quality as possible.
